WMBC, is New Zealand's newest mountain bike club with over 340 (as of 6/07) members from all over the Bay of Plenty and is also affiliated to MTB NZ, which is part of Bike NZ (a combination of all the cycling codes). The requirement for a large, specialist area to cater for all the different styles of riding and abilities associated with the sport is well provided for at Asset - Rawhiti.
370m of elevation at the highest peak allows tremendous views across the Bay and plenty of scope for a huge variety of trails.
There is a wealth of potential specialist cross-country trails, endless forestry roads and 4x4 tracks, to cater for all levels of rider ability – from the novice through to the experienced professional.

The club has gained access to the private land within the Asset and Rawhiti Forest Blocks, the tracks consist of formed 4WD access tracks and purpose built single track in amongst Native and Pine forests. The tracks cater to XC, Downhill and recreational riders, a fun park is being constructed to cater to the free riding fraternity. The club is focusing on opening the grade 2 to 3 tracks first then extending to more demanding track systems.

The WMBC is very grateful to the generosity of the owners of the Rawhiti and Asset Forests Ltd for allowing the club to use their land. Due to being privately owned 'working' forests,  only members are permitted to ride in the park. There is a plan to offer a 'Temp 3 Week Permit' from any of the main cycling shops, Information Centre, Ohope Beach Holiday Park & Mobil on Pohutukawa Ave, Ohope. Watch this space for developments.

Upon joining with the Whakatane Mountain Bike Club, you will become part of a club exceeding 340 active members. Your membership will gain you unlimited access into the Asset – Rawhiti Forest. This will provide you with access into the park for up to 12 months (depending on when you join, as the membership year is July 1 - June 30 each year).
